Welcome to the Engine Books blog. As you probably know by now, since you’re here, Engine Books is a shiny new publisher of quality fiction.
Can you tell how excited I am?
You can think of Engine Books as a spinoff of Freight Stories if you want to. If Andrew and I hadn’t started the magazine, I would never have thought this possible. Freight Stories is always a terrific experience, and it helped me remember how important editing is to my thought processes, my well-being, and my own writing.
But Engine Books feels like a calling.
You can read more about the press and its rationale at the Engine Books Home link above (and about me, if you wish, on my personal web site). Here on the blog, I’ll do my best to keep a steady stream of book-related stuff going on, and will also report on what I’m reading each week. (The point of this last is mostly to give potential Engine Books authors a sense of my reading habits and responses. I’d love to know what other editors are reading on their own time, too.) Hopefully soon that reading list will include queries and submissions, but I’ll keep those under my hat and off the blog.
I hope Engine Books News will be a place where we can talk about the issues at play in publishing and reading, both large and small, and where we can celebrate fiction in all its shapes and sizes. If there’s something you’d like to discuss here, feel welcome to let me know in a comment or an e-mail. If you’d like to guest post, drop me a line. I’d be thrilled to have you.
And I hope Engine Books will come to be a publisher you rely on for wonderful volumes of fiction. I plan to launch the first book this summer, and will let you know more about that the very first minute I’m able.
Welcome! Cheers! And most importantly, go read some fiction.
Love the logo, and it’s always exciting to see a new press committed to the good stuff. And I must say, a sizable chunk of your favorites list resembles mine.
