Other Heartbreaks: Stories by Patricia Henley

A Beautiful Year (and a half)

If you’re keeping up with Engine Books, you know that we’ve got Patricia Henley’s spectacular story collection, Other Heartbreaks on the way this October, and that it will be followed by Myfanwy Collins’ novel Echolocation in March, Sybil Baker’s novel Into This World in August, and Gregory Spatz’s collection Half as Happy in October 2012. These follow, of course, paperback and eBook editions of Debra Monroe’s novel Shambles and memoir On the Outskirts of Normal, both of which came out this June. Seriously: Could a new press be any more privileged in its first two years? I just don’t think it’s possible.

In keeping with my four-books-a-year mission, I’ll be announcing one more 2012 title sometime before 2011 expires. But for now, without further ado, I’m happy to share with you the covers of all four forthcoming Engine Books titles. I do hope you’ll enjoy them.

You can pre-order OTHER HEARTBREAKS at Engine Books right now! Remember, direct orders are the best possible way to support independent publishing. Just click authors & titles in the menu above.

Myfanwy Collins' ECHOLOCATION will be available for pre-order in September, with a publication date in March. It's a deeply addictive, thrilling debut novel.

Look forward to Sybil Baker's novel INTO THIS WORLD next August. It's a story of sisters lost and found, and the bonds that time and geography can never break.

EB will close out the year with one of the smartest, most engaging story collections I've read in years, Gregory Spatz's HALF AS HAPPY.

And of course you already know Debra Monroe’s two wonderful books:

SHAMBLES and ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF NORMAL debuted this June in paperback and eBook from Engine Books.
So! Now you have your reading list from October 2011 to October 2012 almost totally in order. Stay tuned for a fourth title, but more importantly, for news about Engine Books’ wonderful authors.

  1. Victoria, this looks like a great year. Each book looks beautifully distinct and interesting.

If I have one day in 2012 that is half as happy as the cover of Gregory Spatz’s book of stories, I will consider myself lucky.

You’ve given me something new to look forward to, so thanks.
